Smart Lipo

1) What is Smart Lipo?
The Smart Lipo procedure is a relatively new procedure which uses the high-intensity energy of a laser to dissolve and remove fat deposits and tighten the surrounding skin. Smart Lipo is an in-office procedure and does not require use of a general anesthetic.

2) Who is a candidate for Smart Lipo?
The ideal candidate for Smart Lipo is one who has pockets of fat which are resistant to diet and exercise, and who is otherwise in good health and leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Obese patients will generally need to rid themselves of some of their excess weight through diet, weight loss, or liposuction techniques before undergoing Smart Lipo to achieve the best results.

3) What areas does Smart Lipo treat?
The Smart Lipo treatment is an excellent choice for patients hoping to remove stubborn fat deposits in the chin, waist, hips, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, back of neck, pubic mound, and face, excluding the eye area. Smart Lipo can also be used to treat gynecomastia, or male breast enlargement. If you have liver, kidney, heart, or blood disorders or diabetes, you should consult your physician to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for Smart Lipo.

4) How is the Smart Lipo performed?
Your physician will begin the Smart Lipo procedure by marking the areas to be treated and applying a topical numbing agent, as well as a local anesthetic. Once the area is numb, your physician will use the pen-shaped hand piece of the Smart Lipo laser to fire intense, rapid pulses of energy close to the skin, targeting the fat cells beneath the skin. The laser energy dissolves the fat cells and the liquefied fat is removed by the body’s own natural processes during the weeks following treatment. Because the laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate and close up, any bleeding under the skin during the procedure is minimal. The laser energy also boosts collagen production, to result in firmer skin over time.

Each session takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete, and you can expect to undergo 1 to 3 procedures to achieve the effects you want. If you do need a repeat session, your doctor will wait 3 to 6 months before your next Smart Lipo treatment.

5) What should I expect after Smart Lipo?
Following Smart Lipo treatment, you may experience slight bruising and minimal discomfort. You can address any mild aches with an over-the-counter pain medication. Your doctor may also give you a compression garment to be worn over the treated area for the first day or two after treatment. Most likely, you will be able to return to your normal routine within 24 hours. You’ll likely see results within the first week, but you should expect results to be completely evident about 2 months after your Smart Lipo treatment.

6) What are advantages of Smart Lipo over other procedures?
Smart Lipo is an excellent choice to address areas of fatty deposits which cannot successfully be treated with traditional liposuction methods. It’s also an excellent complementary procedure for general liposuction procedures. The procedure involves minimal pain, discomfort and bruising, and there are no incisions or suturing. There is also no need for general anesthesia.

7) Is Smart Lipo approved for use in USA?
Yes, Smart Lipo has received FDA clearance for use in the United States.

8) Is Smart Lipo covered by insurance companies?
No, Smart Lipo is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by major insurance companies.

9) What is the average cost of Smart Lipo?
Expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for your Smart Lipo procedure.
