JUVÉDERM®

What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is an injectable dermal filler gel made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds both volume and hydration. JUVÉDERM® is used for smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth.

What results may JUVÉDERM® offer and how long do they generally last?

JUVÉDERM® is injected into the area of facial tissue where there are moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folding of the skin during approximately 15 minute appointments. It temporarily adds volume to the tissue of the face resulting in the appearance of smoother, healthier skin. Typical results last about 9 months to 1 year.

What side effects are associated with JUVÉDERM®?

The side effects may include:

  • Redness
  • Pain and tenderness
  • Firmness
  • Swelling
  • Lumps beneath the skin
  • Bruising
  • Itching
  • Skin Discoloration

Side effects are typically mild or moderate in nature and may be visible for seven days or less.

Who is not an optimum candidate for JUVÉDERM®?

Individuals who should not use JUVÉDERM® injectable gel include individuals with severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis or the history or presence of multiple severe allergies and individuals who have a history of Gram-positive bacterial proteins.  Additionally, patients who are using any medications that are known to be blood thinners such as aspirin or ibuprofen may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, patients who are undergoing immunosuppressive therapy or therapy to decrease the body’s immune system may experience an increased risk of infection.

How many types of JUVÉDERM® injectable gels are there?

JUVÉDERM® is offered in two formulations: JUVÉDERM® Ultra for areas where subtle volume enhancement is required and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus for correction of severely deep folds and wrinkles.

Is JUVÉDERM® safe for pregnant women?

JUVÉDERM® injectable gel has not been tested on pregnant women, breastfeeding females or in patients under 18 years of age.

Has JUVÉDERM® been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration?

JUVÉDERM® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in June of 2006. JUVÉDERM® comes from the same creators as Botox Cosmetic.

What is the general cost of a JUVÉDERM® treatment?
