When we talk about hormone replacement therapy to diminish the effects of aging, we are typically talking about its use for women. Menopause is a period of aging that greatly impacts a woman and which has side effects that can be treated with HRT. However, andropause is just as serious of an issue and many men are finding that they feel better if they take hormones to replace the testosterone that disappears from their bodies as they age.
"Men's testosterone is highest at age 30 and every year after, they lose between one and three percent. By the time some men are 50, they might experience depression, the inability to exercise or recover quickly from exercise or develop muscle tone." (source)
Men who take replacement testosterone tend to feel better both physically and emotionally. They get their energy back. They feel younger and more vivacious. And their self esteem is higher as a result of this. Although hormone replacement therapy is not right for everyone, it can be good for many aging men. More and more of them are starting to realize it.
Question of the Day: Do you think that men or women are more likely to benefit from hormone replacement therapy as they age?
