Stay Healthy By Asking for Substitutes at Restaurants

Dr. Michael Brickey is an anti-aging psychologist known best for his appearance on Oprah to discuss a book he has called Defy Aging: Develop the Mental and Emotional Vitality to Live Longer, Healthier, and Happier Than You Ever Imagined. He is also the host of Ageless Lifestyles Radio, a show through which he interviews experts in the anti-aging field.

One of the experts interviewed recently on the show was Chef Bernard Alexander who is the owner and head chef of a fine dining restaurant in Florida. The point of the interview was to discuss how individuals dining at restaurants can make smart choices about their meals. The answer that came out of the interview was surprisingly simple: ask the chef to accommodate you.

Basically, if you're eating at a good restaurant, the chef is going to be willing to assist you in making healthy choices. Substitutions will be available to lower calories, fat and carbs in order to keep with a diet that you've been using. This is good news for people who frequently avoid dining out because they don't want to risk diet damage.

Question of the Day: Have you ever requested special foods at a restaurant?
