Menopause is a Thing to be Taken Seriously

n_illo_071806_hotflash182_300.jpg

Menopause is a serious issue. You may think that this is an obvious fact if you know a lot about the symptoms that can occur for women during menopause. However many people fail to take this time of life seriously as a medical condition that may require treatment. That fact was pointed out in a great opinion article in the Burlington Free Press; (you can read it here).

The article was written in response to another article which dealt with the important topic of hormone replacement therapy. There is a big divergence in the mainstream community about whether HRT is a good thing, a bad thing or neither. The (female) doctor who penned the original article argued essentially that the symptoms of menopause are not so bad that they require HRT as treatment.

The opinion piece argues back against this. The woman who wrote it says that she's not interested in engaging about a debate on HRT as is so often the case these days. Instead, she just wanted to note that she can testify to the fact that women often undergo serious, sometimes debilitating, side effects associated with menopause. These are side effects that should be taken seriously and not diminished by others - especially female medical professionals!

Question of the Day: Do you think the average person realizes what a serious medical conditino menopause can be?
