Menopause is obviously an issue which affects a great number of people. Every woman who is getting older experiences menopause, whether its a barely-noticeable change or a life-altering experience. And yet, there aren't a lot of medical professionals who focus solely on working with menopausal women. That's what made the Menopause Center at St. Paul's United Health so unique.
The Menopause Center has been a place of refuge for St. Paul's menopausal women for the last five years. It's a place where they can get relief from symptoms ranging from hot flashes to menopause-linked depression. It's also been a place where they could get information about everything from hormone replacement therapy to expectations during the change.
Due to budget cuts, this center of refuge will exist no more.
The health center was forced to cut a variety of programs due to the fact that they didn't earn as much money as they needed to remain in operation. The Menopause Center was a niche program which didn't bring in a lot of money and so it made the cut list. These services will still be provided in other areas of the health center but will no longer be centralized in one location.
