The business of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is consumer protection. One area that they have recently cracked down on to protect consumers is falsely-advertised natural alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). HRT serves the purpose of replacing estrogen to reduce risks and problems associated with menopause. Alternative treatments advertise that they offer the same benefits with no risks. However, the FTC found that seven different online companies offering natural alternatives in the form of progesterone creams were making unsubstantiated claims both as to their effectiveness and as to their lack of risk. Six of the seven companies that were reported on by the FTC signed consent orders but the seventh is going to court over the issue.
