Plastic Surgery Celebrity Kathy Griffin
You may or may not consider Kathy Griffin to be a celebrity in her own right. That just depends on what you define as a star and how far you’re willing to stretch the word celebrity to include people making the D-list. But there’s no denying that Kathy Griffin is a name that most people know which makes her a celebrity in the most basic sense of the word. And with all of the cosmetic surgery that she’s had done, she’s not just a celebrity but something of a plastic surgery celebrity.
It was pointed out after her recent Emmy win that much of the plastic surgery that Kathy’s had done was similar to that done by Nicole Kidman. The facial flaw that the two shared was a combination of low eyebrows and a high forehead. Short of creative work with bangs, they figured they needed some plastic surgery to fix the problem. The work that Kathy had done to get the job done was mostly a brow lift which adjusted the difference between the brows and forehead.
Just the brow lift wouldn’t make Kathy stand out as a plastic surgery celebrity though. This status comes from the other work that she’s had done which includes liposuction and basic Botox injections. More than this, her plastic surgery celebrity status comes from the fact that she’s the insider gossip on the work that other stars have had done.

Real Life Barbie: Cosmetic Surgery Celebrity
It’s one thing to be a celebrity and have the cosmetic surgery that you get garner some attention. It’s another thing entirely to become a celebrity based entirely on the cosmetic surgery procedures that you’ve chosen to have. That’s the case of Sarah Burge, a woman from the UK who is better known by the appellation “Real Life Barbie”. If you’ve always wanted to go from being a plain old brunette to looking like the busty doll who has stirred up so much controversy over the years with women’s group, Burge is the idol you want to turn your eyes towards.
Burge is verging on 50 years old and is happy to admit to all of the plastic surgery that she’s had. The price tag on her re-vamped body is well over a quarter of a million dollars and includes costs for tummy tucks and liposuction, face lifts and eyelid surgery and a whole slew of other procedures. Interestingly, while most other women who want to look like Barbie have to get breast implants, Burge had to decrease the size of her bust to get the doll-like look she was going for.
You might be thinking that Sarah Burge is a woman with too much time on her hands, a woman who couldn’t be anything like you. But Burge is really just a normal woman who mothers three children and who happens to think that plastic surgery is a good use of her time and money. That means that you, too, could look like Barbie if you so desire. You can learn more about Sarah Burge from Make Me Heal which is also where the photo of her (above) came from.

Don’t You Love Celebrity Plastic Surgery Befores and Afters?
We all have to have something that we indulge in to pass the time. No, not a hobby (although we all need those too) but something totally frivolous that most people would consider to be a waste of time. It’s time-wasters that help us decompress from the stress of our days and get into a relaxed mode where our minds don’t have to think about the serious issues we’re faced with on a regular basis. For many people, a favorite way to de-stress is to check out the latest available before and after pictures of celebrity plastic surgery.
Even when you aren’t talking about celebrities, before and after pictures are fun to look at. Whether it’s makeovers or plastic surgery pics, it’s neat to see the transformations that can take place with just a little bit of work. You can indulge in looking at these photos and do some daydreaming about what you’d change about yourself if you weren’t so busy working all of the time. Looking at celebrity before and afters is even more fun because these faces are so familiar to us that we can really notice the differences. Anything that makes you daydream in your downtime is a good way to pass the time in my book.

Reality TV Show Idea: Extreme Celebrity Surgery
Reality TV shows are fun to watch for so many different reasons. They’re entertaining, they’re addictive and they’re exactly the kind of “bad TV” that clears your mind of the day’s shenanigans. Celebrities on reality television are even more fun because they combine the silly addictiveness of reality TV with the allure of Hollywood. Because of this, more reality TV shows with celebrities in them are really in order.
Wouldn’t a great reality television series be one on extreme celebrity surgery? It could be an elimination-based series in which certain celebrities go through rounds of plastic surgery until they just can’t take it anymore. One of the stars would come out looking totally transformed. Wouldn’t you tune in to see which stars changed for the better and which just looked terrible after the week’s surgeries were done?
This could be a come-back gimmick for stars that have left the spotlight. If people will watch LaToya Jackson become a police officer working in Muncie Indiana (on Armed and Famous), they’ll sure spend the time to watch an extreme celebrity surgery competition on TV.

How Common is Celebrity Bad Plastic Surgery?
It’s not uncommon to hear horror tales about celebrity plastic surgery gone horribly wrong. But just how common is celebrity bad plastic surgery? After all, cosmetic procedures are so commonly done these days that it doesn’t seem likely that all of these botched jobs could really be happening. If your best friend can get affordable plastic surgery in Podunk without any significant problems, doesn’t it seem like stars in Hollywood should be getting good plastic surgery every time?
The truth is that most of the stories that you hear about celebrity bad plastic surgery aren’t accurate. Online sites regularly publish doctored-up pictures that show bad celebrity surgery that didn’t even really happen. And oftentimes, the surgery that did really take place just looks bad in the beginning because the celebrity hasn’t had a chance to heal yet before the paparazzi are at the door. Celebrity bad plastic surgery probably happens but not nearly as often as most people want to believe.

Problems with Natural Alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy
The business of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is consumer protection. One area that they have recently cracked down on to protect consumers is falsely-advertised natural alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). HRT serves the purpose of replacing estrogen to reduce risks and problems associated with menopause. Alternative treatments advertise that they offer the same benefits with no risks. However, the FTC found that seven different online companies offering natural alternatives in the form of progesterone creams were making unsubstantiated claims both as to their effectiveness and as to their lack of risk. Six of the seven companies that were reported on by the FTC signed consent orders but the seventh is going to court over the issue.

Celebrity Plastic Surgery or Other Anti-Aging Treatments?
Hollywood is obviously a youth-driven industry especially for the female celebrities. It’s not at all uncommon for the stars to get celebrity plastic surgery to keep themselves looking young. But of course there are some celebrities who avoid plastic surgery for personal reasons. As they get older, they must come to terms with the fact that Hollywood isn’t as interested in their older looks as they are in the youthful appearance of up-and-coming stars. At this time, they have to make the decision about whether or not to go ahead with plastic surgery or think about other anti-aging treatments. Many celebrities opt to prolong their youthful looks with treatments such as colonic irrigation and skin rejuvenation, allowing them to look younger while postponing the perhaps inevitable plastic surgery option.

Celebrity Cryonics: Who Gets Your Vote?
Okay, okay, so you don’t want your favorite celebrities to keel over and die anytime soon. But let’s face it, a lot of them live pretty risk-heavy lives and there’s always the chance that they might die. With cryonics advancements around the corner, it could be possible one day to bring them back in some form or another. If that were the case, which celebrities would you argue should be preserved to return some day in the future? Would you choose the celebrities with all the beauty and little of the intelligence? Or would you preserve the bodies of those celebrities that you think also come with some brains? Of course, there are ethical issues to deciding who lives and who dies but this is just hypothetical so feel free to share your say.

Celebrity Skin Rejuvenation Delays Celebrity Plastic Surgery
Preventative techniques are always better than those medical procedures which are done to reverse issues after the fact. This is just as true with anti-aging treatments as it is with any other kind of preventative health treatment. And it’s just as true for celebrities as it is for the average person. In fact, celebrities often set the trends in preventative wellness because it is in the best interest of their business to prevent aging effects before they occur. It used to be that these techniques were kept secret but now we know that celebrity anti-aging treatments are just as common, if not more so, than celebrity plastic surgery. A couple of years ago, Jennifer Lopez spoke openly about her skin rejuvenation treatments. In other cases, the anti-aging treatments are less openly talked about but still commonly known. It’s fairly clear that it’s better to delay problems than have to remedy them so it makes sense that people have increasingly turned to anti-aging in lieu of surgical remedies.

Reduce Aging by Reducing Stress
There are many different reasons that you might want to reduce stress in your life. A number of these are health-related reasons starting with the fact that stress causes a significant number of heart-related problems. But you might also want to think about superficial reasons that you want to reduce stress. As recently pointed out by Parade, stress causes a significant amount of damage to your skin. This can cause you to have a prematurely aged appearance which you obviously don’t want to have. So it makes sense to reduce stress in your life for the purpose of not only feeling better but also for looking better.
You can use anti-aging therapies such as colonic irrigation to reduce the appearance of stress-based aging but it makes more sense to just reduce the stress. There are a number of different ways to do this but the basics are really simple. You need to eat right, sleep enough and surround yourself with positive people and experiences. If you don’t get enough sleep, wake up grumpy, argue with your family, head to a job that you don’t like, get irritable because you skipped lunch, come home tired and work before bed … well, you can easily see that’s a formula for stress. Make some small changes to improve your surroundings and you’ll quickly see a number of positive changes in your skin.

A Look at Celebrity Menopause
Can you imagine how difficult it must be to go through menopause while you’re under the spotlight of Hollywood’s cameras? Menopause isn’t an easy thing to go through. And it’s not like it’s something that you do really quickly and are done with either – it’s a long and drawn out process. The things that are experienced during menopause can set anyone on edge – uncomfortable hot flashes, sleeplessness, fatigue, weight gain – but for someone who has to appear their best at all times, the situation is even more difficult. And yet, you rarely hear much about celebrity menopause.
Sure, we know that there are a lot of celebrities out there who are around the age where it’s an issue. Madonna is pushing 50. Helen Mirren and Cher are both in their 60s. And even those celebrities in their 40s are at menopause age. But very few talk about it … and they rarely saw signs of the stress of menopause in their public appearances either. One celebrity whose name does get associated with menopause is actress/model Lauren Hutton who became a spokesperson for hormone replacement therapy after she went through menopause. But the women who talk about it seem few and far between. Is it that much of a hush hush issue?

Company to Watch: CellCyte
If you’re interested in getting the latest news in biotechnology, you’ll want to keep your attention tuned in to what’s happening with CellCyte Genetics Corp. CellCyte is one of the leaders in biotechnology developments with specific focus on stem cell research. Straight from the horse’s mouth, here’s how they define themselves on their website:
“CellCyte Genetics is the emerging biotechnology leader in the discovery and development of breakthrough stem cell therapeutic products. These are the first stem cell enabling therapeutic advancements of their kind and make it possible to safely deliver stem cells through the patient’s own circulatory/vascular system directly into a specific diseased, damaged or dying organ.”
A press release put out by the company last month further describes the developments that they are making in this area. It’s all fairly scientific and takes some careful reading to understand, but it boils down to the fact that they are working to create products for stem cell regrowth to add patients with medical conditions such as diabetes. Although this remains experimental, they’re one of the companies to eye as developments move forward.

Braces on Baby Boomers?
What would compel a middle-aged man or woman to go to the orthodontist and ask for braces? Apparently, the fear that they are starting to look older is motivating enough to make many baby boomers start considering braces as one option for creating a more youthful appearance. The Queens Tribune reports on the trend, saying that many middle-aged folks realize that an improved smile will improve their appearance. They say that they don’t want to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery or other anti-aging treatments because of the pain and cost. That seems like a faulty line of thinking, though, since the price of braces and the amount of pain associated with wearing them is fairly extensive.
Still, it points to an important issue in wellness today. The baby boomer generation is a large generation of people and they’re all at about that age where anti-aging issues really matter. They’re active, professional people who still need to make a good impression on people but they aren’t young enough to rely on the luck of nature to help them out in the appearance department. Still, how seriously would you take your boss if he was issuing your directions through braces?

Tips for Preventing Arthritis
You are obviously interested in anti-aging treatments because they improve your appearance and make you feel better about yourself. But you’re probably also at least partially interested in them because they make you feel better in general. There are many different things that you can do on a daily basis to prevent the effects of aging, and some of these will improve both your appearance and your overall health.
The Chicago Tribune recently published a great daily wellness tips article about the things that you can do to prevent arthritis. Many of the suggestions that you will find in that article will also assist you in preventing the appearance of aging. For example, the article suggests the appropriately liberal use of certain spices such as cinnamon and ginger. These spices increase circulation in the body which not only prevents arthritis but also prevents a number of other properties of aging as well. Take care of that body; it’s the only one you’ve got!

Oprah Warns “Menopause Symptoms” May Be Thyroid Problem
Oprah Winfrey was recently diagnosed with a thyroid condition and is currently using her plight to raise awareness about this problem amongst the general population. Specifically, Oprah wants other women to know that the symptoms that they have been passing off as related to menopause and general aging could actually be early symptoms of a thyroid problem. Thyroid problems often get overlooked or misdiagnosed.
“The most common thyroid problem is caused by an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), and symptoms include weight gain, fatigue, depression, high cholesterol, neck pain, hair loss, low sex drive and worsening menstrual symptoms. An overactive thyroid, or hyperthyroidism, can also cause neck pain, hair loss and menstrual and sex-drive problems, as well as insomnia, unexpected weight loss, chronic diarrhea, anxiety and panic attacks, heart palpitations, high blood pressure and bulging eyes.”
These are all symptoms that come together to indicate a thyroid problem. But standing alone, they can look like an issue related to aging. Many of these symptoms are symptoms that are normally experienced by healthy women undergoing menopause. And these can also be symptoms of other health problems that are dismissed because they pose a low threat to people, affecting their daily lives but not raising red flags that there may be a bigger problem.
Oprah’s situation raises a really important point for women who are reaching menopause. It’s critical that women be aware of the symptoms of menopause and not panic when they start to develop these symptoms. However, it’s equally important that women stay in tune with their bodies in case these symptoms are not actually signs of aging but something else that requires medical attention. Getting regular check-ups and paying attention to your health can prevent such problems from going too far.

Baby Boomer Girlfriends’ Retreat Celebrates Aging
When we talk about issues of aging, we often talk about it like it’s a bad thing. We want to prevent aging. We want to postpone aging. We talk about the health problems of aging, the difficulties of menopause and the frustrations expected in the years to come. But that’s only one side of getting older. There are also great things about growing up, even on into menopause and beyond. The Baby Boomer Girlfriends’ Retreat remembers that and celebrates it.
The retreat isn’t due to be held until April but people are already starting to sign up for it. This shows that it’s filling a need that women have. Baby Boomer women are entering aging as a group and they want people to know that this doesn’t mean that their lives are over. While they are quick to embrace anti-aging and wellness therapy techniques, they also recognize the beauty that comes from getting older.
The theme of the retreat is an apt “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now”. Events and activities to be included offer everything from frivolous stuff like karaoke to important issues like time management in your older years. Early bird registration runs for just over another month so if you’re thinking that an April getaway is in order, consider celebrating getting older this spring.

Men and Anti-Aging
It’s becoming increasingly common for men to talk about their feelings. This includes owning up to the fact that they don’t particularly like the effects of aging on their bodies. New television shows like “Big Shots” and “Carpoolers” show bonding between men, bonding which includes conversations about these formerly off-limits topics. But that doesn’t mean that the average guy is comfortable laying it all out there and admitting that aging is an issue for him.
In a recent articled entitled ‘The Dirty Little Secrets of Men', author Korin Miller takes a look at the fact that most men are interested in anti-aging and beauty products but aren’t quite yet ready to make the leap to talking too openly about these things. Many of them apparently order what products they can from the Internet to avoid the embarrassing face-to-face conversation with a sales clerk about the aging issues that are plaguing them.
Because it’s only just beginning to get talked about, many men still don’t realize that they go through something that is strikingly similar to menopause. It’s called andropause. Just like with what women go through, it’s a result of a change in the body as time goes on. And just like with menopause, there are things that men can do to minimize the negative effects during this time period. That starts with a willingness to talk about it and start getting the information that they need.

The Ups and Downs of Hormone Replacement Therapy
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a relatively common treatment for women undergoing menopause who seek to replace their estrogen and reduce the symptoms of aging. However, like with any medical procedure, there are good sides and bad sides to HRT. Any doctor who is honest looks at both those sides and helps women to weigh their options before selecting hormone replacement therapy.
A recent article at U.S. News and World Report helped women weigh out the ups and downs of hormone replacement therapy by looking at the cases of three different women who were considering the use of hormones. Each of the women faced different issues. One was starting to show signs of menopause in her inability to stay asleep at night but she hadn’t gone through menopause completely yet and was afraid that HRT would lead to an unwanted pregnancy. Another is having hot flashes and could benefit from HRT but fears the risks of cancer that are associated with the treatment. And the third was suffering night sweats and mood swings despite all attempts at alternative treatments so she started looking into hormones.
The decision about whether or not to use hormones is a highly personal one, as can be seen by the different circumstances of the women in this article. Many different factors and fears need to be assessed before a final decision is made. Many women do find that HRT is the right way to go for relieving their symptoms and easing their daily life. Some find that they aren’t ready for HRT and opt to manage their symptoms in other ways. The important thing is to get all of the information that you can so that you can make the most informed decision about whether or not HRT is right for you.

Men with Menopausal Partners: Book Recommendation
There is a new book on the shelves that gives information about menopause. So what? After all, there are a lot of books about menopause out on the market today, right? Sure, but most of them are geared towards providing information and assistance to women who are undergoing menopause. This new book is designed to provide helpful information to men who are living with partners who are going through menopause.
MEN-opause: The Book for Men was written by a certified menopausal practitioner who has worked with numerous men and women dealing with the effects of aging. This book is a start-to-finish guide for men to assist them in understanding menopause. It talks about everything from basic information about the stages of menopause to interesting advice assisting men on ways to help their partners with the process of aging.
And one of the great things about the book is that it also provides information about the hormonal changes that men go through as they age. Most literature on this topic leaves out the men since andropause is something that’s only beginning to be understood. Goodman addresses the issue and provides readers with an overview in a chapter that these men might think about reading with their wives!

HRT Doctor Resigns from Wayne State after 15 Years
Susan Hendrix has played an important role in the OB/GYN department of Wayne State University’s School of Medicine. For the last fifteen years she has pioneered research that has assisted women with the difficulties of aging. Her work in the area of hormone replacement therapy has caused significant changes to the way that women are treated during their menopausal and post-menopausal passages of life. But her work in this location may be coming to a close. Hendrix, along with five other doctors from the same department, gave resignation recently.
“Hendrix, who has been at Wayne State for 15 years, said the decision to break from Wayne State was largely due to Wayne's direction under a new dean and the school's inability to patch up its relationship with the Detroit Medical Center.”
The Detroit Medical Center may actually see the benefits of the resignation. Hendrix has worked in the past at their Hutzel Women’s Hospital and hopes to continue her research at this location. She also hopes to work with underprivileged women to offer them the same kind of benefits that she has helped other women achieve during menopause. Hopefully she will continue to be able to research hormone replacement therapy and make headway in aging for women despite the professional difficulties that she has been facing.

Menopause Treatment Decisions Made Easier by Increased Information
A recent study has shown what some might consider to be obvious – that when a woman has increased information about the different treatment options that are available to her, she is in a better position to make decisions about her treatment. The study explored whether “decision aids” used by women considering their menopause treatment options assisted them in making a decision. While the additional information did seem overwhelming at first, the women in the study were able to make more solid decisions once they had all of the information in hand.
“Without understanding your personal risks, it can be a bewildering choice,” said Nananda Col, M.D., lead study author. “People tend to make choices based on the last spectacular headline they saw. For example, the increased risk of heart attack when taking combination hormone replacement therapy is true, but how big that risk is — compared to how big the benefit will be — is substantially different for every woman.”
The point here is that it is important to take charge of the direction of your own life. Going through the aging process can be overwhelming. Sometimes you just want to hand off your decisions to a doctor or someone else interested in giving you advice. But in order to make the best decision for you, YOU need to be the one to make the decision. Of course, you should work with health care providers to get the most accurate information about your options, but you shouldn’t let anyone else decide what treatment is best for you. Menopause may make your body feel like it’s out of your control but you grab the reins and keep on riding that horse where you want to go.
